The Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of Shenzhen Guangming District People's Hospital is a key medical discipline in Guangming District. In 2019, it passed the evaluation by the Chinese Thoracic Society and China Respiratory Specialty Consortium, becoming a national accredited unit for PCCM (Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine) construction in tertiary hospitals. The department has five national training centers: National Interventional Pulmonology Training Base, Chinese Medical Doctor Association Airway Intracavitary Radiofrequency Ablation Physician Training Center, Asia-Pacific BTPNA Technology Training Base, National Respiratory Oncology Photodynamic Therapy Training Base, and Olympus Greater China Respiratory Endoscopy Clinical Training Center.
The ward has 40 open beds, including 6 RICU (Respiratory Intensive Care Unit) beds. The outpatient department has specialized clinics for COPD, asthma, early lung cancer screening, smoking cessation, and snoring disorders. The department features a fully equipped respiratory endoscopy interventional diagnosis and treatment center; asthma minimally invasive treatment center, lung tumor minimally invasive interventional treatment center; pulmonary function and airway allergy examination room; sleep monitoring center and treatment room; respiratory therapy rehabilitation room (nebulization, non-invasive ventilator, and diaphragm pacing therapy). The department is equipped with domestically leading respiratory endoscopy interventional examination and treatment equipment, including electronic bronchoscopes, rigid bronchoscopes, ultrasound bronchoscopes, bedside portable bronchoscopes, LungPro full-lung virtual navigation bronchoscopes, fluorescence bronchoscopes, medical thoracoscopes, argon plasma coagulation devices, electrosurgical units, HybridKnife, cryotherapy devices, photodynamic therapy devices, laser therapy devices, bronchial thermoplasty devices, thermal steam therapy devices, and on-site cytology examination systems. The department also has invasive ventilators, non-invasive ventilators, defibrillators, high-flow humidification therapy devices, infrared therapy devices, high-frequency vibration sputum clearance devices, and air pressure wave therapy devices.
The department has a total of 34 medical, nursing, and technical personnel, including 12 physicians and 22 nursing staff. There is 1 chief physician, 2 associate chief physicians, 7 attending physicians, 2 resident physicians, 1 associate chief nurse, 7 charge nurses, and 14 staff nurses. 60% of physicians hold postgraduate degrees or above, 90% of nurses hold bachelor's degrees or above, and there is 1 postdoctoral supervisor.
The discipline leader is Professor Long Fa, who serves as Department Director and Director of the Respiratory Endoscopy Intervention Center. He is a professor, chief physician, and postdoctoral supervisor. He is a Lingnan Famous Doctor in Guangdong Province, and a visiting scholar at Heidelberg University Chest Hospital in Germany and the University of Chicago School of Medicine in the United States. His academic positions include: Council Member of the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, Standing Committee Member of the Asian Society of Cryotherapy, Standing Committee Member of the Photodynamic Therapy Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, Interventional Committee Member of the Chinese Association of Chest Physicians, Committee Member of the Respiratory Endoscopy Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Committee Member of the Chinese Respiratory Equipment Technology Association, Standing Committee Member of the Interventional Minimally Invasive Respiratory Branch of the China Medical Education Association, Committee Member of the Expert Committee on Endoscopy Quality Control of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Behavioral Medicine Association, Deputy Director of the Respiratory Intervention Committee of the Guangdong Thoracic Diseases Society, and Vice President of the Guangdong Association of Chest Physicians and Deputy Head of Respiratory Intervention Group. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and critical respiratory diseases (refractory asthma, emphysema, bullae, pulmonary nodules, lung tumors, various acute and chronic respiratory failure (including ARDS), interstitial lung disease, refractory pneumothorax, pulmonary infarction) and respiratory endoscopy minimally invasive interventional diagnosis and treatment techniques. He was the first in China to successfully explore and study "bronchial thermoplasty" for the treatment of COPD-asthma overlap syndrome. He was the first in the city to开展 "bronchial thermoplasty (BT)" and "cryo-denervation (BCD)" for the treatment of severe refractory asthma, "thermal steam lung volume reduction", "valve implantation lung volume reduction", "targeted lung denervation radiofrequency ablation (TLD)", and "spray cryotherapy" for the treatment of COPD. He pioneered in the city "AR full-lung navigation bronchoscopy transpulmonary parenchymal peripheral pulmonary nodule sampling (i.e., lung tunnel technique BTPNA)" for precise diagnosis and treatment of early lung cancer in pulmonary nodules, "photodynamic therapy" for lung cancer, and "endoscopic lung volume reduction" for severe emphysema and refractory pneumothorax; endoscopic tumor thermal and cold ablation (electrotome, argon plasma coagulation, HybridKnife, cryotherapy, laser, radiofrequency ablation, microwave), ultrasound bronchoscopy EBUS-TBNA, robot-assisted CT-guided lung cancer ablation, and medical thoracoscopy. He has published more than 100 SCI and core journal papers, led multiple provincial, municipal, and district scientific research projects, obtained multiple authorized patents, edited multiple books, received 1 third prize of Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award; and received multiple provincial, municipal, and district individual honors.
Our department has carried out most respiratory endoscopy interventional diagnosis and treatment techniques. The key respiratory endoscopy interventional diagnosis and treatment techniques currently carried out include:
1. Bronchial thermoplasty (BT) and cryo-denervation (BCD) for the treatment of severe refractory asthma, COPD, and asthma-COPD overlap syndrome
2. Transbronchial thermal steam lung volume reduction, targeted lung denervation radiofrequency ablation (TLD), and spray cryotherapy for the treatment of severe emphysema
3. Bronchoscopic valve implantation lung volume reduction for the treatment of COPD and refractory pneumothorax
4. Endoscopic diagnosis and treatment techniques for pulmonary nodules (navigation + airway ultrasound + ROSE + ablation)
5. Transbronchial photodynamic therapy for bronchopulmonary tumors
6. Endoscopic thermal and cold ablation of pulmonary lesions (electrotome, argon plasma coagulation, HybridKnife, cryotherapy, laser, radiofrequency ablation, microwave)
7. Airway stent implantation for the treatment of benign and malignant airway stenosis and esophagotracheal fistula
8. Transbronchial cryobiopsy technique
9. Puncture robot combined with laser and cryoablation for radical treatment of early lung cancer in pulmonary nodules
10. Cryotherapy for refractory cough
11. Tracheobronchial balloon dilatation for the treatment of tracheobronchial stenosis
12. Medical thoracoscopy for the diagnosis and treatment of pleural effusion and refractory pneumothorax
