The Department of Pharmacy of Shenzhen Guangming District People's Hospital is a hospital pharmacy technology department, formed by the merger of the pharmacy departments of the two campuses in 2018. It is both a functional department for drug guarantee and a comprehensive management and technology department integrating policy, professionalism, academic, technical, management and economic aspects, bearing the important responsibility of hospital drug guarantee and rational drug use. According to the national tertiary hospital standards, it has 4 departments: Pharmacy Department, Clinical Pharmacy Department, Clinical Pharmacology Research Office, and General Office, which carry out comprehensive professional and technical work such as drug supply, clinical pharmacy, drug/medical device clinical trial research, pharmacy affairs and scientific research teaching management.
Teaching and scientific research are the full embodiment of the discipline development of the Department of Pharmacy. The Department of Pharmacy pays attention to talent training and team building, and can recruit and train many doctors and masters from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Jinan University every year; as an intern training base for many domestic medical colleges and universities, it pays attention to undergraduate internship teaching, and trains more than 10 college and undergraduate interns every year. The number of papers published in domestic statistical sources and core journals continues to increase. In 2019, 1 SCI paper was published, and 1 district traditional Chinese medicine project was undertaken.
Personnel Structure:
There are currently 96 professional and technical personnel, including 9 with associate senior professional titles or above, 22 with intermediate professional titles, 1 PhD, 16 masters, and personnel with bachelor's degrees or above accounting for 81%.
Department Structure:
1. Pharmacy Department
The Pharmacy Department undertakes the drug guarantee work of the Department of Pharmacy, including the central pharmacy, outpatient pharmacy, outpatient traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy, and drug library procurement office. It is specifically responsible for drug supply, supervision of standby drugs in clinical departments, pharmaceutical professional and technical services, and pharmacy management.
1.1 Central Pharmacy
The central pharmacy is mainly responsible for drug supply, prescription review and dispensing for inpatients in the campus, and discharge medication; distribution and management of drugs for the anesthesiology department and operating room; cooperating with clinical work to ensure emergency supply of rescue drugs and regular inspection; guiding ward nurses to manage and store drugs, and assisting in rational clinical drug use. The central pharmacy also undertakes the prescription review and verification of high-risk drugs for inpatients. The central pharmacy includes four functional units: drug dispensing room, preparation room, cool storage room, and packaging machine room. The drug dispensing room provides oral medication supply and quality assurance for inpatients, provides single-dose medication for patients, and delivers required drugs and some consumables to all clinical departments of the hospital in a timely and accurate manner to ensure clinical medication needs.
1.2 Outpatient Western Pharmacy
The outpatient western pharmacy is responsible for the dispensing and distribution of outpatient western medicine prescriptions including narcotic drugs and psychotropic drugs, as well as the distribution of device-numbered items and instruments related to treatment. Each window is equipped with two staff members, adhering to the system of one person dispensing and one person checking. There is a medication consultation room to answer questions about drug knowledge raised by doctors and patients at any time. It also undertakes emergency medication work, with 24-hour open rescue drug counters, valuable drug counters, and narcotic drug counters, providing rapid services for emergency patients around the clock.
1.3 Outpatient Traditional Chinese Medicine Pharmacy
The outpatient traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy is responsible for the dispensing and distribution of outpatient free-decoction traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese herbal medicine. It has free-decoction traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese herbal medicine windows, with complete functions, which can well complete various traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy tasks of the hospital and the Department of Pharmacy. There is a drug consultation window to answer medication questions from patients and doctors at any time. Kangmei Smart Traditional Chinese Medicine Pharmacy, with the tenet of "convenience and benefit for the people", provides traditional Chinese medicine decoction and home delivery services for patients, greatly improving patient satisfaction.
1.4 Drug Library
The drug library is responsible for the procurement, storage and supply of drugs for the two campuses. It has normal temperature area, low temperature area and refrigerated area, and drugs are classified and placed according to different pharmacological effects, dosage forms and storage requirements. The warehouse is clean and bright, with a relatively complete temperature and humidity automatic monitoring and alarm system. Drugs are procured according to relevant national regulations and clinical use needs, strictly accepted, and supplied to various pharmacies. At the same time, it is responsible for the distribution of external disinfectants in clinical departments and the distribution of other auxiliary drugs for treatment, examination, and diagnosis.
2. Clinical Pharmacy Department
The Clinical Pharmacy Department carries out patient-centered clinical pharmacy work with rational drug use as the core, which is the development direction of hospital pharmacy services. Currently, there are 8 clinical pharmacists, mainly focusing on anti-infection, endocrinology, neurology, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, etc.; they participate in daily ward rounds, review patient orders, and provide individualized treatment plan design for clinical practice; they participate in the treatment consultation of critically ill patients and special-grade antibacterial drug use, and conduct patient medication education for inpatients. It can further carry out adverse drug reaction monitoring and management work, and has won the title of "Advanced Unit" for Shenzhen adverse drug reaction monitoring work many times; it actively carries out prescription and order review work, greatly improving the rationality of doctors' prescription medication; it strives to provide high-quality pharmacy consultation services, has set up outpatient drug consultation windows to answer questions for patients and their families; it provides drug information services for medical, pharmacy, nursing staff and patients in the hospital through various channels such as QQ groups, WeChat groups, and hospital official websites; it participates in the national health and family planning commission's antibacterial drug clinical application monitoring and bacterial resistance monitoring online reporting work; it undertakes the teaching and scientific research paper guidance work for clinical pharmacy majors of Guangdong Medical University School of Pharmacy and pharmacy majors of Sun Yat-sen University Xinhua College.
3. Clinical Pharmacology Research Office
It has successfully filed medical device clinical trials, continuously carries out ethics/device clinical trial quality management standard (GCP) training, strictly follows GCP principles and relevant normative documents, strictly implements clinical trial protocols, protects the rights and safety of subjects, and ensures the authenticity and reliability of clinical trial data. It has applied for filing as a drug clinical trial institution, and is committed to building a research institution that is in line with international standards and fully covers comprehensive drug clinical research. It will soon carry out therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and gene testing technology to provide data support for rational clinical drug use and promote the pharmaceutical scientific research work of our hospital.
4. General Office
It is responsible for establishing and improving various work systems, technical operation procedures and job responsibilities of various personnel for pharmacy management, completing the assessment and employment of various personnel; formulating talent training and post rotation plans for the Department of Pharmacy; responsible for hospital grade evaluation, pharmacy automation and pharmacy informatization construction, community health drug logistics extension services, PIVAS project construction, etc.
At present, the drug guarantee, teaching, and scientific research work of the Department of Pharmacy are developing comprehensively and rapidly. In the face of challenges and opportunities, all staff of the Department of Pharmacy of Shenzhen Hospital of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences will focus on the tenet of people's health, build a model of basic medical security, create a high-level hospital integrating medicine, education and research, with virtue and exquisite medical skills, and make greater contributions to the development of hospitals in China in terms of pharmacy.
